Welcome to SARI - The Official SARI Magazine Website

...But each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that.
1 Corinthians 7:7

As seen on the homepage, SARI is a magazine - an online one, at that. However, the type of magazine is not fully apparent. The answer? SARI is a community for 'creative' people.

Started back in April of 2007, the editor - Syd, although known virtually and throughout her town as Squid - was the first of the five original members. The five remained for over half a year until members suddenly began to join all at once. Not all of them stayed due to busy lifestyles and inability to contribute, so that reduced the member count to about thirteen by the end of 2007.

In spring of 2008, SARI received four new members, and it stayed that way for some time. By December of 2008 there were a total of 19 talented and creative members, some artists, some writers, some a combination. Excellent growth for an invitation-only website, and most of the members were very active - meaning getting on every day, practically. Not all of this was without difficulties. SARImag was nearly shut down once due to lack of submissions, and a few times the issues have been postponed. The Moderators of SARI determined this to be caused by lack of members. The site was booming in activity - but no one was submitting. This is when the editor developed the Assignment System. The Moderators worked hard at cleaning up the magazine, burning old threads and pages, posting new links, and creating more opportunities to encourage member participation. As a result it moved up in the rankings. More members are being recruited for longer issues and more time passers. The Moderators are hard at work with their jobs!

Everything has its good seasons and bad seasons, but hopefully SARI will continue to remain in a good season.

Then the Angel of God spoke to me in a dream...
Genesis 31:11
At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, 'Ask! What shall I give you?'
1 Kings 3:5

"How did SARI come about?" we ask the editor.

When I turned 13, my dad got me a subscription to Stone Soup - a magazine for writers under the age of 14. The members, from all over the world, could submit their writings. Another member would be chosen to illustrate for them, if they were accepted to be published in the issues. I submitted twice, and neither time as accepted. Truth to be told, I was actually rather disappointed in Stone Soup because the same members were being featured in every single issue.

The month before I turned 14, I did not resubscribe to the magazine. What was the use to read it if I could not have a chance to submit anyway? The day I turned 14 I would be out of the age limit. There were so many things I wanted to change in that magazine. I wanted everyone to have a fair chance.

Back up a bit. Since a couple of weeks before I got the subscription, I had been thinking about starting my own magazine. I was mulling over ideas for months, until about September or October of 2006. At that time I prayed about what to do - not avidly, just asking God what I should do. How much longer I waited I am not sure, but I recall having a dream about a magazine something like
Stone Soup. This sparked my interest and I immediately began to plan out everything for it. December/January of 2006 I had the name and the letters written to my friends about my newest project.

However, I didn't mail the letters until I further planned out SARI, which was around April. I searched with Dad for free website hosts and came across Wetpaint, which I was not totally sure about. It was the best I could find, so that is what I settled for. A small voice in my head told me this was just another tiny passing phase I was going through, and it would not last long, just as all my other phases. But I wanted to prove the voice wrong. On April 25, 2007, I created the magazine. The next day I added content to the homepage, and from there it grew. There were a total of about 5 pages on the magazine besides Issue One, which was NOT long at all! Now there are at least 70 pages with issues nearing 30 pages! Long story short, SARI was the vision of a 13-year-old girl who wanted everyone to have a fair chance at being published in a magazine, even if it was not a 'real' one.

And just so you know, I'm totally addicted.

Welcome to SARI - The Official SARI Magazine Website

SARI is a magazine for those who express themselves silently - story-writers, artists, photographers, poets, and anyone else! From High Fantasy to Romance to Historical Fiction, we cover all genres.

YOU submit your creations to the editor, considering you are both a member and 13 years old at the youngest, and they are inserted into the next issue of Send And Read It. The name is pretty self-explanatory, eh?

Some flippin' sweet features of SARI are the following:
  • Advice Column
  • Poem Column
  • Nature Column
  • Contests
  • Horse Column
  • Reading other people's work in every issue
  • Auditions for site positions
  • And MORE.
Just a few more things to say about the website:
  1. I will notify you by email and via the site when the site has been updated with a new issue.
  2. No inappropriate content in any form - videos, threads, pages...anything. SARI has the 'Three-Strikes-You're-Out' system and you will receive a warning.
  3. Please no highly-personal info (meaning where you live, email address, etc.) just in case...technology isn't perfect, of course.
Do not hesitate to ask me or any of the Moderators if you have any questions!

Welcome to SARI - The Official SARI Magazine Website

Want your work featured in SARI for the other creators to read? Feel free to submit! The magazine depends solely on its contributors. Unless you already have it, you will have to message the editor via the site and request her email.

If you do not submit that way, let's go over the process. SARI has an Assignment System to make sure that everyone contributes. About three to four weeks before the next issue is to be released, you will receive your categories via site messaging. There categories vary in number and type every issue, but the three standard types are Writing, Art, and Poetry. When you see which topics you have, you will go to the categories page and see what submissions are required for that category and when they are due. If you do not submit them by the deadline...well, you'll see what happens.

Follow the submission guidelines when you are finished with the assignments and send them to Syd. Everything you need to know about submitting is on the guidelines page. If you, by some chance, think of something that is not on the page, message (via the site) the editor, and she will respond to your question and add the question to the page. (Make sure the answer to your question is NOT on the guidelines page before you ask!)

So this is how it works. You email (NOT over the site or it will not be accepted) anything you have created to me - which means:
  • Creatively taken photographs
  • Artwork
  • Poems of any type (limericks, haikus, narrative, etc.)
  • Stories (series are allowed, if anything, encouraged!)
  • Books recommended to read
  • Notes/Comments on SARI (via TRK)
  • Anything else you can think of!
You can even get other people to illustrate your stories if you don't want to do it yourself! Click here to find out more.

There is only one primary rule; you must have done the work yourself. You cannot submit any pictures you find off of Google or anywhere. If you have any questions about anything, then message the editor via the site. Her email is for submissions only.

I'm touched by that story... :)
Thanks for inviting me to be on the site...when was that? It seems so long ago, but it's only been about half a year! Strange.
