"You can't judge a man until you've walked to moons in their moccasins." That is the main message of the story. In Walk Two Moons, a girl named Sal is traveling with her grandparents to her mom's house for her birthday. Sal hasn't seen her mom since her mom ran away.
On the car ride, Sal tells her grandparents a story of how she befriends a girl named Pheobe. Pheobe's mom also ran away. Suspicious notes had been left at Pheobe's doorstep. They had quotes and whatnot on them. Pheobe discovers the secret supplier of the notes, when she catches him leaving a note. She calls him "the lunatic," and believes he kidnapped her mom.
This book is all about perspective. You have to move on when something devastating happens, and sometimes there won't be happy endings. Sometimes there will, but you have to be fortuanate that happened. Life is full of death, and if someone near to you dies, remember that person but move on.
Another message of the story is friendship. At the beginning, Sal didn't understand Pheobe, but as time grew on, as she heard Pheobe's past, Sal finally had walked two moons in Pheobe's moccasins.
